Renneburg Fluid Bed: Superior Processing with Lower Costs In 1887, Heyl & Patterson Inc. was founded to design and construct bulk transfer and processing equipment.  Over 70 years later, the first fluid bed dryer was introduced for the coal industry.  In the years since, technological breakthroughs have combined with our own innovative processes to create a fluid bed system that offers superior processing at a lower cost: the Renneburg Fluid Bed.

On the surface, the Fluid Bed Dryer manufactured by Heyl & Patterson's Renneburg Division is like many other dryers.  It processes granular, free-flowing material at product temperatures ranging from 140 to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, and suitable materials include minerals, clays, organic salts, coal and specialty chemicals.

But the similarities end there.  In a fluid bed, the material being dried is suspended and completely surrounded by the drying gas, causing the material to act like a fluid.  This intimate fluidizing action provides a very high rate of heat transfer while gently handling the solids.

The result is more uniform processing over a greater range of particle sizes than ever before, along with a reduction in product buildup, overdrying, scorching and other hazards.  The end product achieves a higher uniformity of moisture content than previously possible.

Users of the Renneburg Fluid Bed System also enjoy lower capital equipment costs at the outset of operations and lower operating costs over the life of the installation, due to the lower pressure drop and resulting lower horsepower blower motors.

Because there are no moving parts inside the fluid bed, maintenance costs are greatly reduced compared to other systems.

No matter what the installation requirements are, Heyl & Patterson engineers can design a Fluid Bed System to meet specific needs.  Design capabilities include the option to use alternative heat sources, the option to design very small-scale dryers and the ability to design according to specific processing requirements.
